What is Prostate Cancer?
The primary treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate, is medication. Alpha blockers are commonly prescribed as the first-line therapy. These medications, such as Flomax, Zatrial, and Rapid Flow, work by relaxing the prostate, which helps alleviate symptoms. Alpha blockers have a quick onset, usually within a week, and are relatively safe.
Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer in Canada. One out of every 8 men, 12% of all men in Canada, will develop the disease during his lifetime.
